Why Did God Not Give Back Job’s Daughters

I was recently asked this question by a reasoning atheist named – Dark Vulcan:

“Not only that but god is omnipotent, couldn’t he have just given them back instead of giving him new ones?“

My response: I like your point of view and reasoning, it’s dark and deep. But, let me add to it to make it darker. We all claim Jesus Christ to be God in human form, right? What about when His cousin, John the Baptist, was jailed for his preaching (condemning Herod for using his position and power to oppress his own brother by marrying his brother’s wife – sister-in-law)?

Poor John sent a message to Jesus Christ, his cousin, indirectly asking for help when he asked, “Are you the Christ or should we seek for someone else? Because if you are the Christ then all you’ve got to do is speak one word of command and angels would tear this place down and rescue me at once!” [Emphasis mine]

What was Jesus’ response? He answered John’s messengers, “Go back and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind can see, the lame can walk, those who suffer from dreaded skin diseases are made clean, the deaf can hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is preached to the poor….. And a blessing will be on him who has no doubts about me.” [Luke 7:22-23]

WOW! Do you think that would be music in John’s ears? Perhaps not, because his head was going to be chopped off very soon. And he probably perceived it!

AFTER the messengers of John left Jesus, He began to eulogize John! Sounds hypocritical, isn’t it?

Here is the secret: Jesus KNEW and could see something beautiful ahead of John, which no one knew. John was going to be set free and he would be with Christ forever!

Yes, John was beheaded shortly after this. BUT, he rose again from the dead WITH Jesus when Jesus rose from the grave! “And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints that slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.” [Matthew 27:52-53]

Going back to your question. Can you see the correlation there? There was no point bringing Job’s children back, they had gone to a better place……. Again, if you have read any book or research findings on Near Death Experiences (NDEs), you would quickly realize that 9 times out of 10, most people who have passed over to the other side never want to come back to this world again. They always prefer the other side.

I hope you can see the wisdom of God in giving Job new ones and even extending his life that he could see his great great grand children, too! I am sure he would have wonderful stories to tell those grand and great grand children about God.
