Take Time To Rest

Share

Many children of God hold Him to ransom for their poor health, but this is rather unfortunate, because most of the problems they have are simply self-inflicted. That’s right – self-inflicted!

I was reading the London Metro a few days ago and saw this article, “Working 11-hour days ‘is bad for your heart'”, the article stated that “office workers who clock up long hours could have a 60 per cent greater risk of heart disease and early death.

Overtime harms the heart, with those working longer hours feeling more stressed, not getting enough sleep and having less time to unwind.”

It stressed further that “Researchers looked at more than 6,000 British civil servants aged between 39 and 61 over an average of 11 years…. the risk of suffering a heart attack or angina, or developing heart disease, was assessed over the course of the study.”

The Lord knew the importance of rest when He instituted the Sabbath. Do you observe the Sabbath? I am not talking of Saturday or the heavenly rest that is to come – I mean do you really take time out each week to rest?

Look here:  Jesus said, “Come off by yourselves; let’s take a break and get a little rest.” For there was constant coming and going. They didn’t even have time to eat. Mark 6:31 (The Message)

Mel Williams puts it like this: “Come away and rest. The word “rest” in Hebrew means more than stopping work or activity. Rest means tranquility, serenity, peace, and repose. No strife, no fighting, no fear, no distrust. (From Abraham Heschel, THE SABBATH, p. 27) If we had more people who could reach a place of no fighting, no fear, and no distrust, that would be truly revolutionary.”

If you are not resting, you are disobedient, it’s that simple!

Friend, take time to rest, when you do so, your body will start to recover from illnesses and the wear and tear of the day. If you look after your body, it will surely repay you with long life.

Brother John

My name is simply Brother John. Saved and delivered by Jesus Christ just before my 16th birthday, nothing better could have happened to me in my entire life! Read a little more about my encounter with Christ here: Satan Taught Me... https://brotherjohn.org/satan-taught-me-jesus-mastered-me/ .... When I see that something has blessed me in one way or the other, then I want everybody to hear it and get blessed as much, if not much more. I worship with other believers at the The Platts Road Fellowship. In the truest sense of it, BrotherJohn.org is now more than the personal blog of the person who started it, it has evolved into a TEAM of some world-wide believers, who prefer to remain anonymous. This blog has one purpose: give you practical steps in walking with God. The steps can be found in the fresh Letters From God.

Very interesting this should come up now.

I have just gone through some major drama over this. Sadly, it is related to a church I know; and I have observed burn-out and despair in ‘wounded soldiers’ over and over, with many ‘good’ things unable to be followed through as a result!

Especially in England where time is of the essence, I reckon the onus is on the individual to draw apart to REST. I am so speaking to myself!

I got an email few weeks ago from a dear friend that further highlights the importance of adequate rest. Please google the address below and read the true story of Ranjan Das, CEO and MD of SAP Indian subcontinent died after a massive cardiac arrest on Wednesday.

Reading the story from that link makes a sad reading. It is obvious that Ranjan Das paid heavily for what he achieved, “… last year the firm announced that SAP India was the jewel in the crown of SAP worldwide.” Can you imagine his contribution to achieving that? That is part of the deception of riches. All gone in a moment.

This is what the Spirit says:
“The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”
Isaiah 40:6-8 (King James Version emphasis mine)
