I saw Enoch walking with God, and how they walked together was fascinating – the rhythm and the rhyme were a beauty to behold. Anyone would have loved to join their company as they walked.

“And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” [Genesis 5:24]

What do you see when you read this verse? A man taking a gentle walk through a park? Or a man walking as if a lion is chasing him? Perhaps, you see a man taking steps as if the whole world was on his shoulders and could collapse under such weight any moment, isn’t it? Or are you seeing a man on a mission like a spy in your Hollywood movies? What do you see?

Let me show you the One whom he walked with, maybe it will help you see how Enoch walked with God. He walked with Him beyond the point of no return.

“Ocean saw you in action, God, saw you and trembled with fear; Deep Ocean was scared to death. Clouds belched buckets of rain, Sky exploded with thunder, your arrows flashing this way and that. From Whirlwind came your thundering voice, Lightning exposed the world, Earth reeled and rocked. You strode right through Ocean, walked straight through roaring Ocean, but nobody saw you come or go.’ [Psalms 77:16‭-‬19 MSG]

The Good News Bible (GNB) renders it like this, “When the waters saw you, O God, they were afraid, and the depths of the sea trembled.”

Through the boisterous sea, in the twilight, Jesus walked. The waves rolled and crashed repeatedly around Him, He just kept walking, singing songs of praise and making melodies to His Father, completely unconcerned.

He was about to walk past His disciples who were battling the same troubled waves in their boat when they saw Jesus walking by. They became afraid and shouted, “it’s a spirit!”. Jesus responded by saying, “It is I be not afraid”.

“Lord, if it is You,” Peter replied, “command me to come to You on the water.” And He gave permission. Peter stepped out of the boat and started walking on the sea. He was amazed. He looked back at his friends, toiling and rocking with the boat. He looked at himself and then at the boisterous sea, panic set in, and his heart raced and pounded like that of an Olympic sprinter.

All of a sudden, the reality of his science began to roll with the waves of the sea. “How can I, mortal man, be walking on water?” Then doubt crept into his heart and he began to sink.

Thank God, he cried out, Jesus reached out, grabbed him and walked him back to the boat. Peter walked with God. Enoch walked with God. Are you walking with God?

We are in the days of darkness upon the earth and gross darkness is covering the people. Since they cannot see, they are stumbling and groping as they try to make sense of world events and where the earth, staggering along like a drunk, is heading.

This is not new. It was even worse in the days of Enoch, yet he walked with God. Look very well and you will see his footprints and those of the One with whom he walked. More than the footprints, if you look up, you will see his footsteps, it was in sync with the One with who, He walked.

Most people think that when God walked through the sea, everything was quite calm. No, it wasn’t. The elements were so excited that they trembled simultaneously at the sight and presence of the Creator of the Universe. Like the Bernese Mountain Dog, which can weigh 100 pounds, but underneath all that fluff is a sweet, warm-hearted pet known for its gentle nature; Creation goes into overdrive at every movement God makes.

Suffice it to say that as God walked through the woods of Lebanon, the trees broke when they heard the voice of God. The mountains skipped like calves and even Mount Hermon leapt like a young bull. As He passed through the desert of Kadesh, the desert shook and danced, because each time God spoke they saw flashes of lightning – every particle of matter responded.

What do you expect to happen when God asks you to walk with Him? Do you think the sea would remain quiet, and the sun and moon would not shine? And you believe the rain would shut her doors, and even the air would become humid? What happens when your popular royals, politicians or celebrities are passing by? Is everywhere quiet and still? If you cannot understand earthly things how will you understand heavenly things?

Why do you think your walk with God would be so smooth as if nobody was there? There are those who would hoot and will not keep quiet. There are those who would get jealous simply because the beloved of the Lord is walking with Him. Some would try everything to derail that walk. Others would engage in incessant temptations – Joseph can share his experience with you in the house of Potiphar as he took daily strolls with the Father. All your opposition would like to do is prove that you are unworthy to walk with the King of the Universe.

Sinai was a quiet mountain until God descended upon it. “And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.” [Exodus 19:18]

When God leaned on the wilderness shrub, it caught the fire of excitement because her day of visitation had come and would not miss it for anything in the world. Of the billion shrubs in the world, God had chosen it to lean and have a conversation with one of His chosen. It glowed and glowed in praise and acknowledgement of the goodness of God. That was when Moses saw the excited tree. “And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.” [Exodus 3:3]

Until He bid the elements to be quiet, they would not remain still. “Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.” [Psalm 89:9]

Anyone else saw the donkey Jesus rode into Jerusalem? Ordinary people like you and me were excited about it, especially at the gentleness of the donkey, it was walking with the Lord Jesus. But, the religious leaders were very angry.

As you walk with God, the waves of life are going to be boisterous. Either because the devil is stirring the waves or the waves are just excited to see a son of God walk with his Father. Don’t you know that the devil is always jealous and angry that God chose you to walk with Him? Can’t you see how he protested to God that Job was not worthy of God’s attention? Have you forgotten that he opposed Peter’s walk with Jesus, too?

“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:” [Luke 22:31] Another version says it like this, “Then the Lord said, “Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has demanded to have you apostles for himself. He wants to separate you from me as a farmer separates wheat from husks.”

As Peter walked with Jesus, the sea got very rough with him. It was like “if anyone would walk with Jesus victoriously, it’s not going to be you, Peter”. An angel explained it clearly to John the Apostle and he wrote it in the Book of Revelation: And he said to me, “The waters that you saw, upon which the great prostitute is seated, represent peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages…” [Revelation 17:15]

Enoch experienced the same challenges as Job and Peter. Situations resisted him. Circumstances opposed him. Satan the adversary buffeted him, taunted him, and bullied him with relentless arrows of doubt and feelings of depression. He wouldn’t yield. Every day, he enjoyed the walks in the cool of the day with the Lord.

As you walk with Him, seek perfection (integrity) by grace. When Abraham started walking with God, he was always trying to scheme and lie his way through challenging situations, and God had to instruct him: “When Abram was 99 years old, the LORD appeared to him. He said to Abram, “I am God Almighty. Live in my presence with integrity.” [Genesis 17:1 GW]

Will you fail or pass the test of Satan and the world? Jesus said to him, “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” [Luke 9:62} The Good News Bible says such a person is of no use to the Kingdom of God.

The things we call sin, the world, and Satan are testing grounds for the ones who claim to love God and are worthy to walk with Him. And the tests are simple, do you love Him enough to prefer Him above all these other things?

Jesus walked with God and experienced the same tests. His tests in the wilderness were not matters of a story just to make Him look super. He was tested exactly the same way as you are being tested today. He was tested with lusts of the eyes, lusts of the flesh and the pride of life. The fact that He passed the tests made people see Him walking on water, with the Father.

Seeing Enoch walking with God. Seeing Noah walking with God. Seeing Abraham in the company, together with Moses, then David, and Daniel. He had seen Jesus leading the group. Peter asked to join the party, and Jesus said, “Come”. I asked to join the party, He gave the same response, “Come”. The door is still open to you as well. The Spirit says to you, “Come”.

When God walks, the whole Creation is excited and rejoices at His sight. When they hear His voice they jubilate and celebrate. When you walk with Him, these things will not cease. It is you who needs to upgrade your understanding that the place you keep at His side is one of honour and exaltation. The enemies of your glory will never be happy to see you walk with God. Fight that through a resolution to walk with God and never look back.

If you walk with God in the wilderness then you shall surely walk with Him on the seas. The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to walk with those who desire to walk with Him (2 Chronicles 16:9).

Prayer: Father, thank You for the glorious opportunity of walking with You. I accept this beautiful honour and I ask for the grace to walk with you. If Enoch could do it without grace, I know I can do it by grace. From today, I choose to walk with You. Help me to ignore the boisterous world around me in Jesus’ name. Thank You for hearing me. Amen.

Brother John

My name is simply Brother John. Saved and delivered by Jesus Christ just before my 16th birthday, nothing better could have happened to me in my entire life! Read a little more about my encounter with Christ here: Satan Taught Me... https://brotherjohn.org/satan-taught-me-jesus-mastered-me/ .... When I see that something has blessed me in one way or the other, then I want everybody to hear it and get blessed as much, if not much more. I worship with other believers at the The Platts Road Fellowship. In the truest sense of it, BrotherJohn.org is now more than the personal blog of the person who started it, it has evolved into a TEAM of some world-wide believers, who prefer to remain anonymous. This blog has one purpose: give you practical steps in walking with God. The steps can be found in the fresh Letters From God.

I love the perspectives you bring to the body of Christ, and I believe it’s not yours but only by the Spirit of God. God bless you.
