Heaven makes a stern declaration to the Inhabitants of the Earth:
“Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil has come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time” [Revelation 12:12].
It is very easy to conclude that God hates the whole of humanity so much as to send them to their sudden destruction. No, that is far from the case. But, why the “woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea” because the devil has come down to them?
God is not cruel and had always wanted the best for His Creation, the core of which is humanity. This is largely a mystery! To understand what this verse is really saying to us, we must find out who these “inhabiters” or dwellers of the earth and sea really are.
Before we get into that, we must realize that God does things in three-dimensions. Man is a tripartite being – spirit, soul and body. The world is in three forms – heaven, earth and sea. We also see Moses’ temple in the wilderness in three parts – Outer Court, Holy Place and Holy of Holies.
Reality is past, present and future. This three-dimensional principle is ingrained in humanity and it is meant to reveal God’s intention” to us.”
Inhabitants of the Sea
Let us start from the sea. Are there dwellers in the sea? Is this referring to marine life? Some say it is a reference to fallen spirits inhabiting the seas. Is this the case? Let us search the Scriptures to unlock this mystery.
In the Book of Revelation, chapter 17 verse 1, we see this: “And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:” That is a woman sitting upon many waters, that is the sea.
Then in Revelation 17:15, it explains, “And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.”
Isaiah 57:20 also adds, “But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.”
So, right there in the Bible, we have the explanation of the sea: People of all nations. But what kind of people are these? Isaiah says, they are “the wicked”. Why call them wicked? What really makes them wicked?
Strong’s Concordance gives us the root meaning of that word, wicked, râshâ‛ (pronounced raw-shaw’) means morally wrong; concretely an (actively) bad person: condemned, guilty, ungodly, wicked (man), that did wrong.
“The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.” [Psalm 10:4] He would want to believe in everything except God. He has 1001 reasons not to follow God.
“They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” [Romans 3:12] In essence, every human being is wicked. That is, every sinner is a wicked person. The Sea is the World.
So, we see that the realm of the sea is the realm of wickedness. It is unstable, fluid, adapts to every form of style quite easily; filth, clean, good, bad, ugly, immorality, rudeness, vulgarity, vanity, excess, adultery, murder, disease, foolishness, death, etc – everything is there. Everything is being churned like butter and all partake in different ways and at different levels.
This is where Jesus Christ makes the difference. He turns the sinner into a saint. He makes the wicked a righteous person by taking his place.
“For he (God) hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” [2Corinthians 5:21 Emphasis mine]
Inhabitants of the Earth
Just above the sea and below the heavenly realms is the earth. Man was made from the earth – Adam meaning: “formed from the red earth/mud/clay”. Adam was a glorious being who had the direct breath of God in him. But, Adam fell from the position of grace, and with him fell the whole of human race.
Right in the Book of Genesis, we get an insight and hence some understanding as to the fall of man. In chapter 3 verse 19, we hear God say to Adam, “…for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
Prior to the judgement of God on Adam, in Genesis 3:14, we read: “And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:”
God says this about the earth realm, in Genesis 6:13 “And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”
The earth is a realm that is filled with violence and a place that is devoid of God, hence set for destruction. God does not want any part of it. It is a realm in which Satan thrives.”
We read this in Job when God’s saints were gathered and Satan came into the gathering, God asked him: “Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
But who are the inhabitants of the earth? Since we can see that the inhabitants of the sea are full of sinners and there is violence in the earth realm and destined for destruction, what is the difference between the two?
The earth realm is still different from the sea realm because the earth realm is full of people who had a touch of God in them; they have had the breath of God. In other words, they are God-conscious. They have a link with God. In fact, they KNOW God. But that is not all, they are not where God dwells – heaven.
The inhabitant of the earth is neither in heaven nor in the sea realm, what he has is some God and some world. One moment he is singing “Amazing Grace” and the next he is happily strumming “Sympathy for the Devil”.
One oblivious truth is that once a person is born again, that is, accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour, he is immediately set up on Jacob’s Ladder in the realm of heaven. Such has passed from death to life. Once a person commits to God, he has ALL of heaven’s resources backing him up and this knowledge is put in his hands in the form of the Bible to ascend into heaven.
Unfortunately, most people ignore this and suffer immeasurably through this lack of knowledge. God tries His best through preachers and teachers to bring them into the reality of the heavenly realm, but most ignore this completely – usually by choice.
In addition, Satan is busy trying to bring them down from that heavenly realm because he knows anyone in the heavenly realm is a huge danger to him, not just being able to terrorise him, but he has no power over them. Let us see that verse 12 again.
“Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” [Revelation 12:12]
Satan makes them to join him in walking the earth through Godless fleshly wisdom, sense knowledge and carnal zeal.
Satan confessed to God, he walks to and fro the earth. He walks in the earthly places our souls; in the secret chambers of our minds, in the motions of our bodies and emotions, from the heights of our heavens to the depths of our earth – dust is his habitation!
But God shows His concern: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” [Hosea 4:6]
This lack of knowledge leads to all kinds of permissiveness and weakness, which ultimately leads into sin. Ignorance is darkness. Lack of knowledge is darkness and Satan loves darkness. It is his cauldron.
In Revelation 12:4, “And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.”
The stars of heaven are the saints of God (Daniel 12:3); the dragon (the devil, Satan, Old Serpent) DREW them out of heaven. What does that mean? It means seduced them, enticed them, tempted them – just as Eve was seduced, enticed or tempted until she fell with Adam.
CAST DOWN – dragged down to the earth; out of the heavens of the spirit in the earth of the soul; abandoning the beautiful realm of sonship to lowering themselves back into the soulical religious world of the carnal church systems of man.
It is not just the ministry that is cast down, but the message, the Word, which is the Truth of God.
Truth is light, knowledge is light, understanding is light and light is life! So, they lose the life of the heavenly realm.”
From Eve and Adam, Lot’s wife, Samson, Saul, Ahitophel, Ahab, Orpah, Ananias and Sapphira, etc., we see people who demonstrated being in heaven and got dragged down to the earth!
Paul summed the inhabitants of the earth very well in Romans 10, verses two and three:
“Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.”
The average inhabitant of the earth is selfish. He has his own way of doing what he feels and does not need God to tell him what to do. He lives, either ignorantly or wilfully by the satanic dogma: “Do what you will”.
“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” [Romans 8:7]
The inhabitants of the earth have a preference for the carnal life. They proclaim God with their mouths, but their hearts are far from Him. They only claim allegiance to Him when they are in need or in trouble.
Get Away From The Earth!
What is the lesson for us here? We are to set our sights at being part of the inhabitants of heaven. We are to escape Sodom and Gomorrah, that is, the earth realm. We are to fight, using all the heavenly resources made available to us.
Jesus told us to remember Lot’s wife. It was a coded language that should help us ensure we set the right priorities. The angels of God told Lot to escape to the mountains without looking back as they departed. But, his wife looked back and instantly became a pillar of salt!
One of the reasons why people don’t try to fight their way to heaven or remain in the heavenly realm is because of bad information or false doctrines. The tail of the dragon is the tool he uses to drag the stars down. What is this tail?
“The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail.” [Isaiah 9:15]
They preach, teach and entertain with what tickles the ears, things that will keep the saint comfortable in the earthly realm and would not encourage him to soar into the heavens where he truly belongs. Things that will entice him, no, seduce him not only to look back but to turn back from climbing the ladder that leads to heaven.
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;” [1Timothy 4:1]
Depart from the faith there means, step (jump) off the Ladder to the heavenly realm. What makes them to jump off the Ladder? They were giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. They gave heed to words that fed their carnality.
While on this Ladder, you can’t look back, Jesus says if you do, you will lose your grip on its rails and fall (Luke 9:62).”
Friend, escape this earthly carnal realm by getting on the Ladder and fighting your way into the heavenly realm. It is not easy, but if others such as Peter, Paul, John, Stephen, Timothy, etc., have done it, so could you. The resources are available to EVERY child of God to make it.
